Police Arrests Gang Member Involved In Serial Chain Theft

The Panvel city police have apprehended one of the key members of a notorious gang involved in robbing gold ornaments from senior citizens and women. The arrested suspect has been identified as Suresh Kale (35), residing in Kalyan area. Investigations have unveiled a series of crimes committed by Kale and his accomplices, totalling six incidents in Panvel and other areas.

The modus operandi of the gang primarily involved engaging women and senior citizens by masquerading as charitable individuals distributing money or sarees, often posing as a Sheth's members. The victims were coerced into removing their ornaments with the promise that they would not appear needy in the presence of the supposed benefactor. Exploiting this vulnerable moment, the criminals would then discreetly pilfer the valuables under the guise of arranging them neatly in a handkerchief.

Panvel city police had been on the lookout for the impersonator following three incidents involving such deceptive tactics in the Panvel area over the past few months. The investigation gained momentum with the acquisition of CCTV footage capturing the actions of the fraudster. Acting on this information, a dedicated team led by Police Sub-Inspector Vinod Labhde, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Nitin Thackeray of Panvel City Police Station, initiated a search operation in the Kalyan area.

The breakthrough came when an informant provided information leading to the detention of Suresh Kale. During the subsequent interrogation, Kale confessed to their involvement in three specific incidents within the Panvel area. The investigation has further revealed their participation in three additional crimes, with one each reported in the police station limits of Mumbra, Dadar, and Kanjur Marg.

With Suresh Kale now in custody, the police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
